PPWR & Closure Converters: Screw Caps, Crown Corks, ROPP & PVC/BPA Phase-Out
Screw caps, crown corks, ROPP aluminium closures, flip-tops and dispensing closures are the smallest packaging components by weight — and disproportionate Annex II grade-killers on the entire bottle stack. A 1.8 g PP cap with a PVC plastisol liner and carbon-black masterbatch can pull a grade-A PET water bottle down to grade C. With Regulation (EU) 2025/40 applying from August 12, 2026 and Regulation (EU) 2024/3190 banning BPA-based internal lacquers from July 20, 2026, the closure converter is now a critical design-for-recycling partner whose data feeds the brand owner's DoC. An operator-side playbook for crown cork plants, screw cap injection moulders, compression-moulded HDPE cap producers, ROPP shell decorators and dispensing-closure converters on EN 17665:2022 tether retention under Article 6(4), BPA-NI lacquer migration (PPG Innovel, Sherwin-Williams valPure V70, AkzoNobel Aqualure G1), PVC plastisol elimination (Crown Cork EOLE, Sacmi WT-PVC-Free, Massilly Saturn LX), the March 2026 RecyClass update allowing 10 wt% PP caps on HDPE containers, all-PP spring-free flip-tops (Aptar Future, Silgan PolySpring, Berry XPress, Rieke MetalFreePump), ProTecSeals mono-PP foam liners, NIR-detectable dark pigments, ISCC PLUS mass-balance rPP / rHDPE and ASI Chain-of-Custody rAl for Article 7, the new CEN EN 18120-6 rigid-plastic backbone published April 15, 2026, and the structured DoC data brand owners now demand from Bericap, United Caps, Closure Systems International, Aptar, Berry Global, Silgan Closures, Crown Holdings, Massilly and Guala Closures ahead of August 12, 2026.
